How To Pick The Bronzer That Works For You

Let us help you navigate the multitude of choices with tips, tricks, and answers to your 3 most frequently asked questions.

1. What’s The Best Type Of Bronzer?

Really in the end, it's a matter of personal taste! But the choice of formula - shimmer mineral bronzer, or matte mineral bronzer or cream bronzer - does create a different visual effect.

Shimmer Mineral Bronzer

A shimmer mineral bronzer like Glow Bronzing Powder Sunbeam has an inner light to it. It looks glamorous, polished and sophisticated.

Matte Mineral Bronzer

A matte mineral bronzer like Matte Bronzing Powder Freckle simply blends imperceptibly with your natural skin, for the most ‘no-makeup-makeup’ finish.

Cream Bronzer

Meanwhile a cream bronzer like Bare Bronze leaves a dewy finish, subtly smoothing and perfecting the skin, with a subtle airbrushed effect.

Bronzer for Cool Undertones

Most bronzers have golden undertones. If you have cool rosy skin, and don't tan easily, you should choose a neutral blusher like Blush Touch "Fawn" to use as a bronzer for sculpting and all-over healthy colour.

2. How Should I Apply Bronzer?

The first step is to imagine you are facing a bright light, which makes the high points of your face light up, and casts your contours and angles into shadow.

A. Bronzing To Sculpt

If you apply bronzer to the areas of shadow, which are likely to be under the cheekbones, under the chin, and above the temples, you will be sculpting. This is the same as simple contouring.

This will define and enhance the structure of your face, which helps you look more polished, angular, and will also help your features show up in photos and resist the inherently flattening effects of a camera lens.

B. Bronzing For All-Over Tan

Conversely, if you apply bronzer to the areas where the light hits your face – the high points like your forehead, cheekbones and bridge of the nose and chin – then you will create a natural, healthy, all-over tan effect. It makes sense, since when you tan naturally, it’s these high points of your face that catch the sun.

3. What Should I Apply Bronzer With?

For powder bronzer you can use the half-moon brush included in the compact or follow our artists and use our Powder Brush for easy, streak-free application.

For cream bronzer you can use the sponge included in the compact or aim for the most professional finish with our dense Buffing Brush, which ensures a sheer and blended finish.

Both brushes are hand-made in Derbyshire and are short-handled to fit conveniently inside your make-up bag.
